Spare parts for Oman’s reverse osmosis plants

In short: Oman’s drinking water comes largely from seawater reverse osmosis plants, and those plants run on a small set of imported equipment brands. Meliora FZCO supplies genuine spare parts for that equipment from Dubai, holds JSRS certification (Reg. No. 28306) and answers plant-down enquiries within 4 hours.

Reverse osmosis has replaced thermal desalination as the standard technology in Oman. Of the eleven desalination plants that Nama Power and Water Procurement lists as contracted and operating, ten are reverse osmosis. The one multi-stage flash plant, Barka I, is held as standby reserve. That shift matters for spares: an RO plant has a different parts list from a thermal plant, built around high-pressure pumps, energy recovery devices, membranes and pressure vessels.

Beyond these utility-scale plants, Oman has many smaller RO units: hotel and resort plants, industrial plants inside the Sohar and Duqm zones, and containerised units serving camps and remote sites. These smaller plants often have the hardest time finding parts, because the original system builder is no longer involved and the equipment nameplate is the only reference left.

Energy Recovery PX devices in Oman

Energy Recovery’s PX Pressure Exchanger is the most common energy recovery device in Omani plants. Energy Recovery has publicly reported supplying PX Q300 devices to the 191,000 m³/day Al Ghubrah plant, which was built with eight trains, and to the Qurayyat plant. Older and smaller plants in Oman run the earlier 65 Series devices, the PX-180, PX-220 and PX-260, and some run Energy Recovery turbochargers instead of pressure exchangers.

For a PX enquiry we need the part number and serial number from the device nameplate. If the plant is unsure which model is installed, a photo of the nameplate is enough. Model-specific pages: PX-180, PX-220 and PX-260, PX Q300, PX Q400 and AT and HALO turbochargers. If a device is running but not performing, see the PX troubleshooting guide.

Membranes in Oman

Omani plants use elements from several manufacturers. LG Water Solutions has announced the membrane supply for Ghubrah III, and DuPont FilmTec, Toray and Hydranautics elements are all installed across the country. A replacement element has to match the plant’s design: the same diameter and length, and a rejection and flow rating the existing system can run. Send the model printed on the installed element and the quantity per vessel, and we will quote the same element or ask the manufacturer what replaces it.

Getting parts into Oman

Dubai is the nearest major logistics hub to northern Oman. Sohar is roughly 200 km from Dubai by road through the Hatta–Al Wajajah border, and Muscat roughly 450 km. Heavy or bulky items such as pump casings and membrane pallets normally move by truck. Small urgent parts move by air to Muscat or Salalah. Parts that ship directly from a manufacturer outside the region can be routed straight to Muscat airport without passing through Dubai.

Delivery terms are stated on each quotation. Depending on the order we quote EXW, CIP to an Omani airport, or delivered to site.

JSRS certification

Meliora FZCO is certified on Oman’s Joint Supplier Registration System as an international supplier, registration number 28306. Buyers who need to verify a vendor before issuing an enquiry can find the details on our JSRS supplier page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who supplies desalination plant spare parts in Oman?

Meliora FZCO supplies genuine spare parts for reverse osmosis desalination plants in Oman from Dubai. The range covers Energy Recovery PX devices and turbochargers, FEDCO, Sulzer, KSB and Danfoss pumps, RO membranes, Pentair Codeline pressure vessels and dosing pumps. Meliora is JSRS certified, registration number 28306.

Which desalination plants operate in Oman?

Nama Power and Water Procurement lists eleven contracted plants: Ghubrah II and Qurayyat in Muscat, Barka I, II, IV and V, Sohar IV, Sur II and Aseelah in Sharqiyah, and Salalah IWPP and Salalah III in Dhofar. Ten use reverse osmosis. Ghubrah III, at 300,000 cubic metres per day, is under construction.

How long does delivery from Dubai to Oman take?

It depends on where the part is. A part available in the UAE can move by road to Sohar or Muscat, or by air to Muscat or Salalah. A part that is built to order by the manufacturer follows the manufacturer lead time, which we state on the quotation along with the delivery terms.

Can you identify a part if we only have the equipment nameplate?

Yes. Send a photo of the nameplate showing the manufacturer, model, part number and serial number, with a description or photo of the part you need. We pass that to the manufacturer, who confirms the correct part for that serial number.

Do you supply small and containerised RO plants as well as large ones?

Yes. Small plants at hotels, industrial sites and camps use the same brands as the large plants, in smaller models, and are supplied the same way. The equipment nameplate is usually all we need to start.
