Energy Recovery PX® Q400 Spare Parts and Units — Dubai and Spain Supply to SWRO Plants Worldwide

Launched in October 2022, the Energy Recovery Inc. (ERI) PX® Q400 Pressure Exchanger is ERI’s current flagship energy recovery device for SWRO desalination. At 400 gallons per minute it is the highest-capacity PX ever produced — requiring up to 25% fewer devices per train compared with the PX Q300 — and delivers up to 98% device efficiency with lower volumetric mixing (approximately 3% at balanced flow versus around 5% for the Q300). Like every PX device, the Q400 is built from corrosion-resistant sintered alumina ceramic with a single moving part, supports a multi-decade design life and requires no scheduled maintenance. At 77 dB it is also ERI’s quietest PX.

New SWRO projects commissioned from 2023 onwards — including plants in Morocco’s national desalination programme, Algeria’s $5.4 billion build-out and new GCC capacity — increasingly specify PX Q400 banks. Meliora maintains an active ERI supply relationship and sources PX Q400 components, repair kits and complete units for plant operators, EPC contractors and O&M teams worldwide.

PX® Q400 Parts and Kits We Source

Q400 for New Builds and Retrofits

For new SWRO trains and capacity expansions, fewer Q400 devices deliver the same duty as a larger Q300 bank — reducing manifold complexity, footprint and installed cost. For plant operators evaluating a retrofit from turbochargers or older ERDs to PX technology, we can supply complete Q400 units with commissioning spares as a single DDP package. Send your train flow rates and recovery ratio and we will confirm the standard device count for your configuration.

Why Contamination Remains the Only Real Failure Mode

PX devices have no material wear mechanism under correct operating conditions — ERI field analysis has found no design or manufacturing defects across the installed base. Failures follow feed water contamination events, where hard debris damages the ceramic rotor. Pre-treatment quality is the critical operational variable, and after a contamination event a repair kit restores full performance provided the rotor has not been damaged beyond reconditioning. We can advise on repair scope from your failure description before you order.

Stocking Strategy for Q400 Plants

For plants running Q400 banks, holding one complete repair kit per bank as insurance stock is prudent practice — the kits are compact with long shelf life. Operators in North and West Africa face the longest resupply chains; pre-positioning kits through our Spain hub, 3 to 5 business days DDP to Casablanca or Algiers by airfreight, removes that lead-time risk entirely. Bulk pricing applies on multi-kit orders.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my plant uses PX Q400 or PX Q300 devices?

Check the nameplate on the ERD bank. Plants commissioned before 2023 almost certainly run PX Q300 or earlier devices; the Q400 launched in October 2022 and appears in trains designed from 2023 onwards. If the nameplate is inaccessible, send your plant commissioning date and train flow rates and we will advise the likely model before quoting.

Can PX Q400 and PX Q300 devices run in the same plant?

Yes — in separate banks or trains. Devices within a single parallel bank should be the same model, but many plants expanding capacity add Q400 trains alongside existing Q300 banks. We supply kits and components for mixed fleets under one RFQ and one DDP shipment.

Do you supply complete PX Q400 units as well as spare parts?

Yes. We quote complete PX Q400 units for new trains, capacity expansions, retrofits and standby stock, alongside repair kits and individual components. Complete units ship in original manufacturer packaging with full documentation.

How fast can you deliver PX Q400 parts to North Africa or the GCC?

For plant-down enquiries we respond with availability and DDP pricing within 4 business hours. From our Spain hub, airfreight to Casablanca or Algiers is typically 3 to 5 business days DDP; GCC deliveries route from Dubai with overnight airfreight capability to major Gulf airports.
