Built entirely from Super Duplex stainless steel (Alloy 2507, UNS S32750) with FEDCO’s patented Water Bearing™ technology — where the pumped seawater lubricates and cools the integral thrust bearing, eliminating oil maintenance entirely — the MSD delivers efficiencies up to 87%. With over 5,000 installations worldwide, the MSD achieved the world’s lowest recorded SWRO energy consumption at a Saudi Arabia SWCC-commissioned plant in 2021.

FEDCO MSD Model Range — Corrected Designations

FEDCO MSD pumps come in two design families covering a total flow range of 20 to 850 m³/h. Low Flow (shelled design): MSD-40, MSD-70, MSD-130 with Super Duplex shell, shaft and stages. High Flow (bolted stage design): MSD-160, MSD-200, MSD-350, MSD-400, MSD-650, MSD-800 with Super Duplex shaft and stages as standard. The model number reflects approximate design flow in US GPM. Provide the model number, stage count and serial number from the end bell nameplate when enquiring.

Water Bearing™ — The Critical Wear Item

FEDCO’s patented Water Bearing™ handles the entire axial thrust load generated by the impellers. The shaft is kept in tension, eliminating buckling risk, and seawater provides all lubrication — no grease or oil maintenance required. Water Bearing life depends on pre-treatment quality and feed water SDI. In high-SDI or turbid feed water, inspect at each scheduled maintenance interval and replace proactively. Early Water Bearing replacement prevents shaft scoring and stage damage that would require a broader repair scope.

Super Duplex 2507 — Why Alloy Specification Matters

The MSD’s seawater corrosion resistance depends on maintaining Super Duplex 2507 alloy integrity throughout the wetted path. Substituting impellers or diffusers in lower-grade stainless steel (316L, 904L or standard Duplex 2205) will result in accelerated pitting corrosion in the chloride-rich high-pressure seawater environment. All FEDCO MSD wetted parts sourced by Meliora meet the correct Super Duplex 2507 specification.
