In short: KSB’s reverse osmosis pumps are the HGM-RO high-pressure pump, the RPH-RO volute casing pump and the Multitec-RO multistage pump. All three are built in duplex or super duplex stainless steel for seawater. Meliora sources their spare parts from KSB. Send the pump type and the order number from the nameplate.
This page covers KSB’s seawater RO pumps. For the Etanorm water pump, see KSB Etanorm spare parts.
| Pump | Design | Maximum flow | Maximum head or pressure | Material |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HGM-RO | High-pressure pump for RO systems with pressure exchangers | 1,500 m³/h | 950 m head, 120 bar discharge | Super duplex pressure boundary, impellers and diffusers; duplex shaft |
| RPH-RO | Horizontal radially split volute casing pump | 2,500 m³/h | 110 m head, 80 bar working pressure | Super duplex stainless steel |
| Multitec-RO | Multistage high-pressure pump for small and medium plants | 850 m³/h | 800 m head | Duplex stainless steel |
Sources: KSB HGM-RO type leaflet, KSB product data for RPH-RO, and KSB’s product announcement for Multitec-RO. Maximum fluid temperature is 40 °C for HGM-RO and RPH-RO.
The HGM-RO is KSB’s high-pressure feed pump for large trains that use pressure exchangers for energy recovery. It runs at 3,000 or 3,600 rpm. Two design points affect maintenance. The bearings are product-lubricated plain bearings, so there is no oil system on the pump, and the bearings depend on clean, continuous flow. The shaft seal is a single mechanical seal that KSB designed to be replaced without removing the bearing bracket.
The RPH-RO is a single-stage volute casing pump with a high working pressure of 80 bar and a low head of up to 110 m. That combination suits a pump installed in the high-pressure part of an RO system, where it only has to add a modest pressure rise. It has a back pull-out design, so the rotating assembly can be removed without disturbing the pipework, and a double volute from DN 80 upwards to reduce radial thrust and shaft deflection.
The Multitec-RO is the smaller multistage pump. KSB introduced it for small and medium plants of the kind found in hotels, on large ships and in transportable container units. It has an axial inlet, which means it needs a mechanical seal only at the discharge end, and a ceramic bearing. KSB describes its wear parts as easily replaceable.
KSB builds these pumps to order. Two HGM-RO pumps of the same size can have different numbers of stages, different impeller diameters and different materials, depending on the duty each was sold for. The pump type on its own does not identify the parts. The KSB order number on the nameplate does: it links to the parts list for that exact pump.
If the nameplate is missing or unreadable, send what you have: the pump data sheet or sectional drawing from the plant’s documentation, the item number of the part on that drawing, and any numbers cast or stamped on the failed part.

KSB builds three lines for seawater reverse osmosis: the HGM-RO high-pressure pump for systems with pressure exchangers, the RPH-RO radially split volute casing pump, and the Multitec-RO multistage pump for small and medium plants.
KSB lists the HGM-RO with a discharge pressure of up to 120 bar, a head of up to 950 metres and a flow rate of up to 1,500 cubic metres per hour, at fluid temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius.
The HGM-RO has a super duplex stainless steel pressure boundary, impellers and diffusers with a duplex steel shaft. The RPH-RO is made of super duplex stainless steel. The Multitec-RO is made of duplex stainless steel.
The pump type and size and the KSB order number from the nameplate. KSB builds these pumps to order, so the order number is what identifies the correct parts list. The item number from the sectional drawing helps if you have it.
Yes. The Etanorm is covered on a separate page because it is a standardised water pump and is identified differently from the engineered RO pumps.
